Ottawa now approximately $400M below the cap floor

They're clearing room for something big. Wonder if they don't take big-time runs at both of Hall and Pietrangelo. If they're not then I have no idea why they'd bother buying Ryan out.

well Ryan had a NMC and they would have had to protect him in expansion draft

I am not sure who the players they have that they would protect though

Yeah they're not exactly bursting at the seams with "must-protect" players.

Chabot, Tkachuk, Duclair, White...that's about all I can come up with

This seems more like they're going to swing for the fences with some big moves to me. They have three first round picks, four second round picks, and a (frank)ton of cap space. They could go after any of Hall/Pietrangelo/Krug and/or use one of those firsts and one or two of the seconds in a trade.

If I were Lou I'd be calling Dorion again and seeing if I could recoup my 1st and 2nd round picks for Leddy

The only thing with Leddy that would be challenging in a trade is the fact that he's making more money ($6.5M & $7M on a $5.5M cap hit) in the last two years of his deal than his cap hit. That might not be attractive to teams with potentially no revenue coming in for two seasons in a row.

yeah, its almost like Boychuk would be a better choice for them but I doubt Ottawa on his approved list

I was shocked Buffalo was on Staal's approve list though so you never know

I can't imagine they're able to move Boychuk. He can pick only 8 teams he'd accept a trade to and I'm sure those 8 teams were picked strategically so that he really can't be moved. My guess is they're the 8 teams with the least amount of cap space

I mean that's probably the best of what's out there, it'd make a ton of sense.

ARI is going to be like everyone's drunken degenerate uncle this offseason. You know he's coming to Thanksgiving dinner but you have absolutely no idea what the hell he's doing to do

We've got a James Reimer to be a capable back-up with a $3.5 million cap hit who only actually costs $850k

Maybe Ottawa will take him...

Marner to Ottawa for the 5th overall and then Toronto signs Pieterangelo seems like it makes too much sense

as long as Toronto has already paid that crazy 14 million signing bonus for this coming season
